BIA Caring For Their Community Outreach Event!

Our community becomes stronger when we lend a helping hand to those in need. It is with this mindset that Beautiful I Am (BIA) hosts various outreach events throughout the year that will improve the quality of life of our surrounding community. Our goal is to create a safe space where women and young girls can receive the necessary tools and guidance to achieve anything, and what better way to demonstrate this than by serving the needs of our community!

On Saturday, October 17, 2020, BIA hosted an outreach event to support Martha's Table, a local organization whose mission is to support strong children, strong families, and strong communities by increasing access to quality education, health and wellness, and family resources. We decided to support the focus area of health and wellness with the goal of donating 100 sandwiches and bags of trail mix to Martha’s Table. We knew that if BIA ladies worked together that we could achieve this big goal and would be a great example to them of the power of achieving a challenging goal by working together and communicating with each other!

The ladies of Beautiful I Am arrived early on Saturday to be able to assist with planning and setup with support from their Mentors on how to most effectively prepare sandwiches and trail mix bags to meet our goal. Our hearts were overjoyed to see that many ladies brought their friends and parents along to help with food preparation. It was two hours of hard work but there was an atmosphere of cheer and joy as volunteers encouraged each other to keep going, checked to make sure everyone had what they needed, and shared stories about how thankful they are to be helping others.

BIA was able to exceed its goal by preparing not 100 but 245 sandwiches and bags of trail mix! There was a smile and feeling of great accomplishment on every face that was celebrated with a surprise pizza party. The ladies were so excited about surpassing their goal that they asked if it was possible to help distribute the food to the community. We would have loved to be able to allow them to help but were not able to due to safety concerns with the current pandemic. We ended our day by reminding each young lady that they are beautiful just the way they are and that all of their hard work is going to put a smile on someone’s face.

In all that we do, our highest priority is to nurture and grow young girls into productive women. We look at each one of our young ladies and the extraordinary qualities they possess, and it brightens our day. Despite having to move our programing to a virtual platform this year, it has been eye-opening and rewarding to see so many of them grow in a short span of time.

We are grateful to our supporters as this event would not have been possible without our volunteers and the overwhelming amount of monetary donations we received so THANK YOU! Our organization cannot strive or grow without your support. “The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members,” Coretta Scott King
